T minus 2 days until Ironman Lake Placid. I woke up today feeling good (Shaun didn't feel quite as good as I did but then again I didn't have 4 margaritas on Thursday night). We headed up to Mirror Lake for my last workouts before the race. First up was an easy 15 minute swim. I decided to wear the wetsuit just to see how it felt. Not good. I was really warm in the wetsuit and the swim generally felt crappy. If the race is wetsuit legal I'm going to have a hard time deciding whether or not to wear. I figure air temperature at race start may play a role in that decision. Next a 60 minute ZR bike. I did 4 easy out and backs on Mirror Lake Drive. Finally a 10 minute ZR T run. The run felt great. My ZR pace was about a minute per mile faster than my normal ZR pace, so I'm guessing that's a good sign.
Shaun swam for about 30 minutes while I was swimming and biking and then headed into town for a Starbucks run. While he was waiting for me to finish he got to spend some quality time with Mary. I find it amusing that the people NOT racing Lake Placid look so much happier than the people who are racing Lake Placid. I think Shaun needs to do an Ironman that I'm not racing so I can have some spectator fun.
I finished up my workouts around 9 a.m. and we headed back to the hotel. The goal was to stay off my feet as much possible but that didn't exactly work out. First there was a trip to see Pat to have my bike "fixed." I was having problems shifting from my small chain ring into my big chain ring. Ended up the problem was with me and not my bike. I was trying to change gears under a a heavy watts load and needed to learn to use an easy spin when I was shifting into the big ring. Pat essentially taught me to re-ride my bike, nice thing to learn 2 days before a race. Next trip was for a massage with Courtney just to loosen my legs and then a pedicure with Mary. Mary rode her bike to the pedicure place and had a water bottle in one cup holder and a cup of coffee in the other. Nice.
Once I for back from my pedicure, Shaun and I drove to Tail of the Pup in Saranac Lake for dinner. Shaun had BBQed chicken and ribs and I got the lobster and clam dinner. Nom nom nom Lobster. The place a little dive-ish but the food was really good and the the barbecue sauce was fantastic. I was eating it by the spoonful. I would love to be able to go back again, but tomorrow night it eating strictly by the QT2 book.
We got back to the hotel around 7 p.m. and tried to watch Hulu, but the hotel seriously lacks band with. After about 20 minutes of stop and go buffering, I pulled out a book and passed about by 8:30 p.m.
