Teaching the World to Do the Dougie
My coach at QT2 Systems, Doug Maclean raced IM CDA this past Sunday. Despite the fact that Shaun and I were driving home from Lake Placid, we followed the race via my phone and twitter (many thanks to Mary Eggers and Courtney Wheeler for keeping us updated). After a strong swim and bike, Doug ran up the field during the marathon and ended up winning the amateur race and finishing 8th overall among all the men in the field (including the pro men -- he was, however, chicked by Julie Dibens). Just behind him was another QT2 coach, Pat Wheeler, who ran up to 4th overall in the amateur race and won his age group (it was a really good race for QT2 generally, Tim Snow took 6th overall and Cait Snow was the 2nd overall female).
Doug even made the front page of Slowtwitch:
Top men
1. Craig Alexander (AUS) 8:19:48
2. Maik Twelsiek (GER) 8:24:59
3. Tom Evans (CAN) 8:49:53
4. Brian Hadley (USA) 9:02:44
5. Adam Jensen (USA) 9:05:42
6. Tim Snow (USA) 9:12:04
7. Billy Edwards (USA) 9:13:13
8. Douglas MacLean (USA) 9:19:09 *AG M30-34
9. Kyle Pawlaczyk (USA) 9:19:50
10. Olly Piggin (NZL) 9:22:24
Best of all was his finish line video is one of the best I've ever seen. He just looks so ridiculously happy (although he has since admitted he has no idea who he was hugging as he came up the chute). While he earned a Kona slot, he decided to give it up in order to turn pro. I'm looking forward to following his pro career (even if he continues to refuse to race IMFL).
